What does Brain + Joint Care do?

How much do I give, and how?
From 4 mL a day for the smallest dogs up to 24 mL for dogs over 55 lb, pumped onto food. The weight slider in the order box works out their amount. Servings follow how much a dog eats, which grows more slowly than their weight, so big dogs don't need giant amounts. Start at a quarter serving for the first week, half the second week, then the full serving.
Is it safe with my dog's medication?
Show your vet the label first, especially if your dog takes anti-inflammatories, anticoagulants, anti-seizure medication or selegiline (Anipryl), or has had pancreatitis. It is a supplement to work alongside your vet's care, never a replacement for it.

Does it add calories?
Yes. MCTs and fish oil are fats, so the full serving adds about 10% to a typical senior dog's daily calories. Trim their usual food by about a tenth to keep their weight steady.
How should I store it?
Keep it in a cool, dark cupboard, away from the stove, oven and dishwasher. Heat is what wears fish oil out. Once it's open, the fridge keeps it freshest. Most dogs finish a bottle within 12 weeks. Dogs under 10 lb take about 4 months, so for them keep it in the fridge once it's open. Cold makes the oil thicker, so let it sit a minute before pumping. If it ever smells sharp or off, stop using it and get in touch.
Can younger dogs or cats have it?
It's made for senior dogs. When a dog counts as senior depends on their breed and size, so ask your vet if you're not sure. It isn't for cats.
Why an oil instead of a chew?
The ingredients with the strongest evidence, MCTs and omega-3, were studied in gram amounts. A soft chew weighs only a few grams in total, so it can't carry them for a medium or large dog. An oil can, and dogs can't spit it out.
